There is this guy... lets call him "Bob" from the rental car location in the city where I work. He is the meanest guy that ever worked in customer service. He has such a bad attitude that I was warned about it on my first week on the project (in March). Since all the other consultants that work on my project know this, you would think that it wont be long before he would be let go since the U.S. is all about customer service. Anyway, this is not the case. My guess is that since they cant find enough people to cover the night hours then Bob would have to do. I'll give you a couple examples... I go to complain about a car once and he offered to DOWNGRADE ME... I'm like what the? I mean I've contemplated putting his name in the how was our service survey a few times but I guess I'm too chicken to do it.
Anyway, I try my best to avoid talking to him when I fly in at night except that they often mess up and I need to talk to an agent. Anyway, this week I get to the rental car station and noticed that my name was not on display. Obviously, Bob was at the counter so I take a second to breathe in and put on my I-hate-your-attitdue-but-I-refuse-to-stoop-low-to-give-attitude mood. And I approached him and for the first time he was nice. I mean for the first time in 9 months he was nice.... He even commented about my name and the fact that it was unique. I was totally shocked. Maybe he was in a happy place personally or maybe he has decided to turn on a new leaf or maybe... and there she was, this other co-worker lady. "Huh", I thought. Maybe, she was his supervisor. that would explain the niceties. I guess I wont find out, I just smiled back at Bob as I headed into my nice upgraded 2 door G6 while again for the first time, Bob is thanking me for being one of their premier customers. What a day.. This week can only be better right :)

I would have given Bob one chance just in case he had a bad day (i.e., fight with his wife, traffic driving into work, PMS, etc.), but after that I definitely would have complained. Customer Service reps like him are one reason I love National's Emerald Aisle where I just walk out to a line of cars, pick one out, and drive away.
Yeah so I am supposed to walk directly to my car except that they often mess up and the client demands that we use this particular agency :)
