Life comes at you really fast

So, a couple weekends ago, a friend of mine lost his dad. I mean yeah I am in my mid 20s so I know what death is but up until that moment, it has always been that my friends loose their grandparents. So you can imagine, that it hit close to home for me. I mean I know they(his family) are doing okay now but still, I guess it was a reality check for me that I am growing up. I promise, every year, something happens that makes me realize that I am getting older.

Anyway, in addition, my mom, in preparation for retirement, is looking into selling our home for a smaller place. Yeah, I know, its getting harder for her to maintain the 5 bedroom house that she bought with 3 daughters in mind only to have 2 of us move out for college and the oldest married. So even though I hardly lived in the house, except during my freshman and sophomore summer breaks, it is still emotional for me.

In Addition, this past weekend my younger sister caught the bouquet at a friends wedding that I was in (the first of 3 weddings I am in this year). Now the ritual has always been that we all step out for the toss out of courtesy to the bride especially if she is our friend but I've learned and practiced my matrix move on how well to avoid the bouquet so that I know it does not land in front of me. Okay so I know that I am not quite ready for the settlling down thing but it was cute to watch her excited about catching the bouquet

And finally, one of my girlfriends is done with medical school and she is moving to Alabama... I am happy for her but at the same time, sad to see that she is moving further away from me :(.... Anyway, I guess if I want free medical benefits, I can go on vacation to see her :)

Anyway, yeah, usually it gets to August/September before it hits me that I am getting older. I guess this year, so many things are happening earlier. I am getting older ..........

Life has a sense of Humor

This is something a good friend of mine has always said but he always refers to this when we talk about relationships…. those we’ve had or the relationship situations that we’ve seen or heard of. For some reason, this came to my mind tonight. Well, I guess really considering everything that is going on around me, I can see why.

I am one of those few crazy people that have decided that I will not settle when it comes to love and I know I haven’t inscribed in stone everything that I want/need in a relationship (I am getting pretty close though) but I can tell you for a fact that I know what I don’t want. I won’t deny that I’ve in the past spent time with people that I got comfortable with. Not that this is a bad thing but the reality is I’ve learned that you should not confuse “comfort” with love, but you need to be comfortable with the person you love… (Yeah, I think I just lost me in that thought)

It gets more complex because I am a happy person. To an extent, I THINK I can almost be happy regardless of the stage in life I find myself in (I THINK). This tends to make it hard for me to make decisions. In the initial stages of a friendship/relationship, I feel as though if I get attention then yeah… I am closer to thinking that whoever gives me this attention in actual fact likes/loves me. I am learning that it may just mean that they enjoy my company as well.

The life sense of humor comes into play when someone or a few good people actually want to spend time with you and you are not into them and you in some cases, at that point in time, want to spend time with someone else who is probably not into you or they are and the timing is just wrong. I find that this tends to be the norm for the most part of life. I’ll give an example, some guy was willing to drive approximately 30 minutes to come see me and I said “No, If he was in the neighborhood he could stop by but I don’t want him to go through the trouble of driving down”. The reality is that if I wanted to spend time with this person I would not mind driving 4 hours (which is my normal drive to see my parents for the weekend) or catching a 6 – 7 hour flight (which is how long it takes me to do an East Coast, West Coast trip like my Miami trip) and I would not have thought about it for longer than a second.

I am definitely growing up because I am learning so much about life, friendships and relationships.
This year has been good for me because I have opened up to a lot of new things, new adventures, friendships and opportunities and I have to admit that so far, I love it. I don’t have a conclusion or anything but I just wanted to get my thoughts out… Let me know what you think

Just Because

I have this urge to write all of a sudden. Not sure if it is because of stress from work or excitement about my trip to London…

Anyway, I am in this Edyth-revolt-against-normalcy stage/phase of life. It’s not a bad thing and it’s not necessarily a good thing either. It is just a thing. I haven’t done anything toooooo crazy yet. Well so there was that one time I was actually considering going to Asia. The deal is that it would have been cost free but the reality is that I was looking to go for a weekend and obviously as it was pointed out to me, I must be crazy to even consider going for a weekend considering all the hassle it would involve to get there and time change which meant that I wont have time to actually be there.

So its 4 /6 and I am still planning for my London trip, you know the usual, get your hair done, put your clothes in order, find my passport and make sure that everything is in order for my flight. I can’t wait. Bola and I are so excited it’s amazing. I’m sad that 2 of my work peeps won’t be there but I think I will have a blast none the less. So the plan is.

Arrive Thursday/Monday (I know what the heck pick a freaking date)
Fly on Tuesday to Spain (Madrid and Barcelona) Return Thursday
Spend Friday night/Saturday in Paris
Catch up with work Friends
Catch up with secondary school friends
Spend time with my aunt and cousins
Take pictures and do some touristy stuff
Get on the plane…. Take 2 days off to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppppppppppp and tour San Fran
Wed/Thur get back to work….

Yay!!!!!!!!!! go me... go me..... go me......

The “What are you thinking?” question

If you know me personally, one of the first things you may have noticed is that I have a very positive outlook on life. I lean towards the “the world is my friend” mentality at the same time, I MAY come across as naïve (the people that know me may say otherwise). Part of my “wonderful” womanly personality trait is that I like attention. Not in a bad way and not too much but a little more than the average woman….. I value a persons time and I think the best gift a friend can give me is the gift of quality time.

Anyway in all of my perkiness and happiness and the world is a wonderful-place-to-live-in-ness, I found out from one of my guy friends yesterday from conversation that guys don’t like being asked “what are you thinking?”. Now I know that I am definitely guilty of asking this question but I guess I was just really shocked that it could be a “red flag” question. I understand the phone conversations with the “Where are you? Why didn’t you call me? What are you doing?” rantings and how those are annoying but the “what are you thinking”?

Let me paint this picture for you
Guy meets girl, guy likes girl, girl likes guy, So one evening, girl and guy are chilling, sitting close talking and trying to learn about each other , so they share those cute stories and jokes and answer those I-want-to-get-to-know-you-situational questions (What is your favorite blah blah blah? and what do you do when blah blah blah?). The evening is going on well, they’ve shared a few laughs and then things get quiet for 30 second and then she asks, “What are you thinking?” That of course is a good question? It has to be right? Right?

I decide to ask a couple of my guy friends and they disagree. A couple answers that I got
1A. The guy tries to figure out what the girl thinks is a possible correct answer, he uses his guess and says something, if he says something wrong, she gets mad and the whole evening is ruined. 1B. The guy gets the answer “right” and then she starts prodding on with more and more questions about the topic, something guys are not so excited about. So this is a lose-lose situation for the guy
2. What if the guy was thinking somewhat in a sensual/sexual context and he just met the girl, he, depending on the phase of life that he is in, (looking for something serious or just thinking about chilling and having a good time) does not want to let her know his thoughts, then he says “nothing” and its obvious he is lying so again the evening is somewhat tainted

My summary is this; I’ve always thought it was a good positive question because both parties are having a good time… This is the way I see it, the evening is perfect or somewhat close to it, For me knowing what the other person is thinking is a part of the whole experience of holding hands, feeling the persons heart beat, being close to that person at that moment in time and connecting at that one time with that person. Now that I know it is a “red flag” question, I don’t know… I guess this will now make a good I-want-to-get-to-know-you-situational question. By this I don’t mean ask the guy what he is thinking instead, ask him “do you think that what are you thinking is a red flag question?”. If he says no, then feel free to ask him “so what are you thinking?”. If he says yes it’s a red flag question then … well….. you have to ignore that part of the connecting with the guy…
